Help Us Save Energy
Dear Owners and Residents,
In the previous post, we saw how our electricity bills have moved north significantly. While this is predominantly due to recent tariff change by the Electricity Board, it does appear that we can do our bit to eliminate wastage and optimize energy usage. We have done some preliminary audits and back of the envelope calculations to arrive at the graph below. The graph will abundantly explain which of our common utilities are energy guzzlers. The graph shows probable averages and the numbers are likely to change with seasonality, water table, etc., We hope to sharpen this analysis as we go forward:
Overhead Tank Pump 1 is a very high horsepower pump that guzzles energy. I presume it has been installed for speedy delivery of bore water to the Overhead Tank(s). However, it seems to run for several hours a day and is the unfortunate topper on energy consumption.
On your behalf, your EC (Executive Committee) will do the following:
- Reinstall missing water level controller for the front tower overhead bore water tank. This will contain unnecessary running of pumps and water wastage due to tank overflow
- Check feasibility of improving energy efficiency of water treatment plant or replace it with a more energy efficient solution
- Consider the feasibility of a solar plant for the lighting load
- Synchronize common lights operation with sun rise and sun set. We will effectively use longer daylight times in summer to save energy
- Run a campaign to raise awareness on avoiding wastage in the use of lifts. We are thinking of posting the image below as a sticker beside each lift call button
We need your cooperation with the following:
- If you notice any wasteful use of electricity in common infrastructure, please notify the facility supervisor
- Avoid calling both lifts for going up or down the towers. While we understand this might help you save some minutes off your busy schedule, it wastes the energy spent by one of the two lifts that have been summoned. Kindly educate all your family members on this aspect and encourage them to become energy saving champions
- Many of the delivery boys and third party service providers serving individual homes are often seen calling both lifts to action. If you see them doing this, please do nudge them gently to compliance
Looking forward to your usual excellent cooperation. Please feel free to send in your suggestions to jegfowa04@gmail.com.
All these require moolah (funds). Kindly expedite payment of all your dues. We plan on sending an individual gentle reminder through appropriate demand notes soon.
